At President Obama’s request, employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs’ 57 regional offices have been asked to take part in a competition, in which they would submit their best ideas for enabling the agency to do its job better. The winning suggestions to find solutions to VA health-care issues, the troubled claims backlog, and long waits for delivery of services, Obama said in an Aug. 17 speech he delivered to the Veterans of Foreign Wars during the service organization’s national convention in Phoenix. “I know, you’ve heard this for years," Obama told the VFW delegates. “But … I know we can do this. America’s commitments to its veterans are not just lines in a budget. They are bonds that are sacrosanct."
