President Obama signed an executive order Aug. 31, which enhances mental-health access for service members, their families, and veterans. The order bolsters suicide-prevention programs, increases the number of Department of Veterans Affairs mental-health professionals who serve veterans, promotes research into post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury, and directs the Veterans Affairs and Health and Human Services departments to develop a plan to provide more related services to rural areas.
