OEF, OIF Campaign Stars Offered

The Defense Department has established campaign stars to recognize service in Afghanistan and Iraq during seven different stages of the war on terror. Persons authorized to wear the Iraq Campaign Medal or the Afghanistan Campaign Medal will be awarded one star for each phase of the campaigns in which they serve or have served. The phases for Afghanistan are: liberation, Sept. 11, 2001-Nov. 30, 2001; consolidation I, Dec. 1, 2001-Sept. 30 2006; consolidation II, Oct. 1, 2006-to be determined. The phases for Iraq are: liberation, March 19, 2003-May 1, 2003; transition, May 2, 2003-June 28 2004; Iraqi governance, June 9, 2004-Dec. 15, 2005; national resolution, Dec. 16, 2005-to be determined.
