Non-citizens who have served honorably in the armed forces since the Global War on Terror began on Sept. 11, 2001, will find the path to U.S. citizenship has eased. A presidential order now makes them eligible for a waiver of both the one-year waiting period to apply for citizenship, and the $675 application fee. Military members serving overseas can also have their interview and oath ceremonies conducted abroad as well. To be eligible, service members must have legal permanent resident status.
