While the man in command is new, the mission will remain the same, Army Gen. David H. Petraeus told an assembly of U.S., Afghan, and coalition members as he assumed command of the International Security Force in Afghanistan (ISAF) on July 4. "We are all – civilian and military, Afghan and international – part of one team and one mission," said Petraeus, who assumed the post in the aftermath of Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal’s resignation. Petraeus was commander of U.S. Central Command before assuming his new job. McChrystal resigned after Rolling Stone magazine published an article that quoted him making critical remarks about U.S. policy and disparaging ones about government leaders, including Vice President Biden.
