The Polish government welcomed a contingent of U.S. troops into the country Jan. 16, CBS News reported. The deployment marks the first time the U.S. troops — soldiers from Fort Carson, Colo. — have established a presence in the country. The movement is intended to deter any plans Russia may have at further expansion among former Warsaw Pact ally nations along its western border.
