The Army has determined that a security breach may have taken place, possibly affecting the security of Web-based information for nearly 1,600 soldiers. As a result, the service will contact soldiers who took part in the Operation Tribute to Freedom program during the past five years, and let them know the information they provided might have fallen into the wrong hands. The program allowed soldiers to share their stories with the American public. In some of the listings, soldiers provided e-mail addresses, phone numbers, rank, gender, deployment dates, and ethnicity. Only the information they provided upon registration is believed to be compromised, the Army says. The Army Criminal Investigation Command is probing the possible breach of the program’s Web site.
