Air Force maintenance crews are preparing for the arrival of the first KC-46 aerial tanker aircraft, projected to happen sometime between year’s end and the middle of 2019. On Jun 29, McConnell Force Base, Kan., hosted the fifth of an ongoing series of meetings, tasked with establishment of training timelines. The McConnell-based 22ndMaintenance Group has established such a timeline, which Air Mobility Command (AMC) is likely to adopt, the service announced.
“Based on the training we have done over the last couple of years with Boeing [the aircraft’s manufacturer], our maintainers are posturing and ready for the aircraft to touch down,” said Master Sgt. Ian Evans of the 22ndMXG KC-46 transition team superintendent.
Evans’ unit will be the first to work on the plane, and would train other units as well.
The 45 representatives who attended the McConnell meeting came from Pease (N.H.), Tinker (Okla.), and Altus (Okla.) Air Force bases, other AMC units, Air Education and Training Command, and the Air National Guard.
