Civilian pharmacies that fill prescriptions for TRICARE-eligible customers will soon be able to view the Defense Department formulary, or list of medications covered by TRICARE, electronically via
RxHub, the national patient information network. TRICARE officials say the service will give civilian pharmacies quicker access to information about available medications and generic substitutes. Patients would benefit too, by becoming less inclined to submit claims for medications that are not covered by TRICARE. The move is the first step, TRICARE says, toward an ultimate goal of allowing civilian contract pharmacies to process all prescriptions electronically.
