Sailors and Marines are limited as of May 1 to transport a maximum of 2,000 pounds of professional gear – equipment deemed necessary to perform their jobs – during funded permanent-change-of-station (PCS) moves. “The main reason for the change is many members were trying to claim anything and everything as pro gear,” said Sgt. Bryan Xayvong, the personal property non-commissioned officer at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C. The definition of pro gear loosely includes specialized clothing, some radio equipment and field gear, and official awards. It does not include sports equipment, office or household furniture, equipment used for personal business, or shop fixtures or furniture.
