Sailors who move themselves or their families to their next duty stations should expect to receive compensatory payments much sooner than before. Navy paymasters now are offering to deposit payments for Personally Procured Moves (PPMs), formerly known as “Do-It-Yourself” (DITY) moves, directly into checking or savings accounts. Direct deposit is expected to cut the waiting time for payment in half. Presently, delivery of checks by regular mail takes about seven days. Electronic payment will be voluntary until April 1, when it becomes mandatory.
