All of the active and reserve components of the Defense Department’s four service branches either met or exceeded recruiting goals through May for the fiscal year that began Oct. 1, except for the Army National Guard, which fell slightly short. The active Army slightly exceeded its accession projection, signing 37,953 new accessions. The active Navy signed 21,160, the active Marine Corps signed 14,457, the active Air Force signed 18,952, the Navy Reserve signed 5,056, the Air Force Reserve signed 5,691, and the Air National Guard signed 5,669 accessions respectively, meeting their goals. The Army Reserve and Marine Corps Reserve exceeded expectations, with 18,237 and 5,896 accessions respectively. The Army guard signed 32,542 accessions, below the projected goal of 34,092.
