The four armed services’ active and reserve components all met or exceeded recruiting goals through fiscal year 2010, which began Oct. 1, 2009, and ended Sept. 30, according to the Defense Department. The active Army recruited 74,500 new soldiers; the Navy, 34,140 new sailors; the Air Force, 28,493 new airmen; and the Marine Corps, 28,041 new Marines during the year. The Army Guard missed its goal of 60,000 slightly, signing 57,204 recruits. The Army Reserve exceeded its mark slightly, signing 26,810 – ahead of its projected mark of 26,000. The Navy Reserve met its goal by signing 6,669 new members, while the Marine Corps exceeded its goal by signing 10,077 – head of its goal of 8,043. The Air National Guard signed 6,983 new members, ahead of its goal of 6,430, while the Air Force Reserve signed 9,604 new accessions, ahead of its goal of 9,135.
