All but one of the active and reserve components of the four armed services either met or exceeded recruiting and retention goals for the time period that began with the beginning of fiscal year 2011 on Oct. 1, through August. The active Navy (31,308 accessions), Marine Corps (26,097 accessions), and Air Force (26,533 accessions), the Navy Reserve (7,719 accessions), and the Air Force Reserve (8,456 accessions) each met their goals. The active Army (60,199 accessions) exceeded its goal of 59,150; the Army Reserve (28,058 accessions) exceeded its goal of 25,617; the Marine Corps Reserve (9,131 accessions) exceeded its goal of 8,864; and the Air National Guard (6,430 accessions) exceeded its goal of 6,191. The Army National Guard (45,972 accessions) fell slightly short of its goal of 48,108.
