The Army plans to unveil its latest advances in helmet technology next month at Fort Benning, Ga., incorporating two distinct designs for mounted and dismounted soldiers and Marines. The Helmet Electronics and Display System-Upgradeable Protection (HEaDS-UP) system will provide modular configurations that incorporate better ballistic materials and impact liner materials, see-through and heads-up displays, and improved eye, face, and hearing protection and communications. Soldiers will demonstrate both configurations during the October demonstration. The Natick (Mass.) Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center’s headgear-thrust team developed the new helmet concepts.
