Phony Internet predators are posing online as officials of the Army Criminal Investigation Command (CID), the service said. The rip-off artists send emails that claim to originate from the "Office of the Division of Criminal Investigation," or DCI. There is no such office within CID, Army officials said. The scammers then ask recipients to provide personal and financial information. The emails usually contain misspelled words and grammatical errors. Persons who receive one of these emails should not respond to the sender, and report the incident to CID at usarmy.belvoir.usacidc.mail.crime-tips@mail.mil, the Internet Crime Complaint Center at http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx, or the Federal Trade Commission at spam@uce.gov.
