Seabees Move to Afghanistan From Iraq

The Navy has redeployed Naval Mobile Construction Battalion to Helmand province, Afghanistan, from Iraq, reflecting the shift of mission requirements and needs in both countries. The Seabees, which had supported the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force while in Iraq, will work on construction of forward operating bases needed to accommodate the more than 20,000 troops who are taking part in the surge in Afghanistan. The unit is based at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport, Miss.
