The Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee unanimously approved David Shulkin as the next secretary of Veterans Affairs Feb. 7. The action paves the way for Shulkin to succeed outgoing VA Secretary Robert McDonald. A physician by training, Shulkin has served as VA’s undersecretary of health since 2015. The Hill newspaper quoted Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., the committee’s chairman, as saying that the full Senate would act quickly to approve Shulkin’s nomination.
