Most active duty service members, reservists and National Guard members who have more than 60 days of unused leave are being reminded they must use it or lose it by Oct. 1, 2013, unless they receive approval for special leave accrual. Since 2010, these service members had been allowed to carry over 75 days’ leave, to account for mission requirements and limited leave opportunities. While there is a chance that a 75-day leave carryover could be approved again, affected service members should not count on it, officials advise. “Members must plan ahead to ensure they’re able to use their excess leave,” said Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Kreig Cressione of the Air Force Personnel Center at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas.
