Shoplifting at Exchanges Rises

Thefts at military base exchanges and post exchanges rose to 7,635 in 2007, up from 7,542 the year before, according to the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES). The slight increase – it amounts to roughly one percent – comes as PXs and BXs have increased the presence of cameras and other security measures, and penalties for shoplifting have stiffened. Favorite items include designer purses and perfumes and name-brand electronics.
