Service members who hold the Afghanistan Campaign Medal (ACM) and Iraq Campaign Medal (ICM) are now authorized to wear bronze star devices on either the suspensions and campaign ribbons of those medals, marking their service during specific time frames of each campaign. Service members should contact the awards branches of their respective services for more specific guidelines. Below are the campaign phases for each medal:
* Liberation of Afghanistan – Sept. 11, 2001 to Nov. 30, 2001;
* Consolidation I (Afghanistan) – Dec. 1, 2001 to Sep. 30, 2006;
* Consolidation II (Afghanistan) – Oct. 1, 2006 to a date to be determined;
* Liberation of Iraq – March 19, 2003 to May 1, 2003;
* Transition of Iraq – May 2, 2003 to June 28, 2004;
* Iraqi Governance – June 29, 2004 to Dec. 15, 2005;
* National Resolution (Iraq) – Dec. 16, 2005 to a date to be determined.
