The Defense Department again has extended the deadline for service members who had to stay on duty involuntarily between Sept. 11, 2001, and Sept. 30, 2009, to apply for Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay. Those service members now have until Oct. 21, 2011, to apply for $500 for each full or partial month they served in Stop Loss status. DoD believes thousands of past and present service members have yet to apply for the pay. Eligible persons can do so online, at http://www.defense.gov/stoploss.
