The Army Surgeon General wants the force to get more sleep. "We trade hours of sleep for mindless channel surfing, Facebooking, tweeting, and working long hours," Lt. Gen. Horoho said, during an Oct. 22 speech before a professional audience at the Association of the U.S. Army 2013 Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington, D.C. "We honestly think there’s no cost involved in doing that…we couldn’t be more wrong," Horoho said. Without at least seven hours of good sleep each night, soldiers run increased risks of making poor decisions and adversely affecting readiness, she said, urging her audience to clear their bedrooms of electronic devices and rely instead on relaxation tapes or yoga exercises.
