Americans under age 30 favor addressing the burgeoning budget deficit through cuts in defense spending, according to a recent survey by the non-partisan Pew Research Center. The survey, conducted Dec. 3-8 among 2,001 adults, showed that 64 percent of all respondents under age 30 believed it is more important to cut the deficit than to keep military spending at present levels. In contrast, respondents age 65 and older favored prioritizing military spending over deficit reduction by a margin of 55 percent to 31 percent.
