The Department of Defense has asked the Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) to create 35,000 comfort kits, each containing 41 different items to include toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, socks, underwear, batteries and other items. “In order for us to create these comfort kits quickly, stock of the required items were depleted from our Southeast Distribution Center (SEDC) in Pensacola, Fla., and the Northeast Distribution Center (NEDC) in Norfolk, Va.,” said Tess Paquette, NEXCOM’s chief merchandising officer. Navy Exchanges began distributing these free comfort kits Sept. 29 to military members and their families located within the federally declared disaster areas in and around the Gulf Coast. The SEDC supplies merchandise to Navy Exchanges in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas and Great Lakes, Ill. The NEDC services Virginia, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Maine, New Hampshire and Maryland.
