U.S. military forces killed terrorist leader Ahmed Godane during Sept. 1 operations, Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby confirmed. Godane was the co-founder of al-Shabaab, a Somalia-based jihadist group bent on militancy and known for threatening and killing humanitarian workers in Africa. “Removing Godane from the battlefield is a major symbolic and operational loss to al-Shabaab,” Kirby stated Sept. 5.
