The Pentagon announced plans to revamp the way laboratories handle toxic agents, in the aftermath of a probe into the Army’s errant shipment of anthrax organisms. The case in question involved shipment of samples to every U.S. state and nine other countries from Dugway Proving Ground, Utah. A probe into the incident determined that while no persons were placed in harm’s way, the procedures were significantly flawed. An expert panel will review procedures for working with and dispensing toxic agents. All such shipments would be subject to validation and tracking processes as well.
