The Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots program, with its long tradition of helping deliver toys to families in need during the Holidays, has taken on a new challenge — literacy. In conjunction with United Parcel Service, the Toys for Tots Literacy Program hopes to deliver books as well as toys to the nation’s more than 12.8 million children who now live in poverty. Through Dec. 31, customers at Mail Boxes Etc. and UPS Stores can buy $1 donation cards to help the Marine Corps Reserve buy books for those children. "With the Toys for Tots Literacy Program, we are able to extend our reach and impact in a very meaningful way by giving the gift of hope and helping to break the cycle of poverty," says retired Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Pete Osman, the chief executive officer for the Toys for Tots Foundation. More information is available on the Web at www.toysfortots.org.
