Studies by TRICARE researchers are identifying disparities of health care delivery within the military medical system that may apply to the entire nation as well. One study, published in the online version of the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine on June 7, examined the differences of prevalence, treatment, and occurrences of asthma among children. Among the findings: black and Hispanic children are significantly more likely to be diagnosed with asthma than white children. They were also more likely to be hospitalized, visit emergency rooms, or receive asthma medications, but less likely to visit specialists, for asthma treatment. The study was co-written by retired Maj. Gen. Elder Granger, the former deputy director for TRICARE Management Agency.
