Two sailors received prison sentences after a trial in a Japanese court March 1, for their role in the rape and robbery of an Okinawan woman last October 16. Seaman Christopher Browning, 24, will serve 10 years with forced labor. Petty Officer Skyler Dozierwalker, 23, will serve nine years in prison with forced labor. Browning also was found guilty of robbing the woman of 7,000 yen – roughly $89. Both sailors were assigned temporarily to VR-59, a reserve air detachment based at Joint Naval Air Station Fort Worth, Texas. They were in Okinawa during a brief stopover and had been drinking before committing the crimes, according to reports. Their apprehension and arrest resulted in imposition of a curfew and limits on drinking for the 50,000 U.S. service members stationed in Japan.
