Veterans who have Apple iPhones soon can gain easier access to their health records. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will launch a new app, which enhances its Veterans Health Application Programming Interface (Veterans Health API), this summer. With it, users can see records of their allergies, medical conditions, immunizations, lab results, medications, procedures, and vital signs. The app also provides information from other private hospitals and clinics that provide care. Any time a veteran visits a VA treatment facility, a record of that visit will show up on the app within 24 hours.

“By building on the Veterans Health API, we’re raising the bar in collaborating with private-sector organizations to create and deploy innovative digital products for veterans,” said VA Secretary Robert Wilkie. “Veterans should be able to access their health data at any time.”
