Veterans who receive health care from the Department of Veterans Affairs soon will receive a safer version of Veteran Health Identification Cards. The new cards will look and feel different, and carry additional features that offer better protections against identity theft and other crimes, the VA stated Feb. 20. The rollout will take place in phases, the first of which will be issued to newly enrolled veterans and veterans who as of yet have not received old Veteran Identification Cards. Veterans who receive the new cards are advised to treat them like credit cards for safety purposes, and destroy their old cards once the new ones are activated.
