The Department of Veterans Affairs took the first steps in its plan to overhaul the Post 9-11 GI Bill application process, which has been overwhelmed since it took effect last year. Initially, a few VA claims processors will be able to complete claims, calculate tuition, fees, housing, books and supplies, and adjust benefits for existing participants under the old Montgomery GI Bill. Once the limited trial of the change is complete, the VA will put it in place department-wide. VA officials expect that to happen by the end of June.
