Department of Veterans Affairs health-care and medical center directors have begun conducting monthly in-person reviews of all such facilities. Acting VA Secretary Sloan D. Gibson ordered the face-to-face visits, as part of the department’s effort to regain public confidence in the aftermath of the scandal involving falsification of how quickly veterans received treatment to which they were entitled. Gibson specifically ordered his managers to review each facility’s scheduling process to ensure that veterans are receiving timely attention. “Veterans must trust their health-care system, and these reviews are an important step towards restoring integrity in all our scheduling activities,” Gibson said.
