With the Ebola virus epidemic in West Africa waning, most service members who had deployed to help fight the disease either have returned home or are on their way. While the epidemic was reaching its peak, some 2,800 military personnel deployed to the region to assist the 10,000 civilian workers in fight against Ebola. About 1,500 of them have moved back to their bases of record to date. About 100 service members would remain as a continued presence in the area for the foreseeable future.
