President Trump will present a posthumous Medal of Honor to 1stLt. Garlin M. Conner, the White House and Army announced March 30. Conner’s wife, Pauline Lyda Wells Connor, will accept the award during a future White House ceremony. According to official records, Conner earned the award while serving as an intelligence officer with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rdBattalion, 7thInfantry Regiment, 3rdInfantry Division, on Jan. 24, 1945. He willingly exposed himself 30 yards away from his comrades, directing artillery fire against enemy troops who came as near as five yards away from him. The Louisville, Ky., native died in 1998 at age 79.
