Zukunft Becomes 25th Coast Guard Commandant

In assuming command of the Coast Guard, incoming commandant Adm. Paul F. Zukunft promised to focus on investing in the service’s future, fostering of intelligence capabilities and cyber security, supporting the homeland-security mission, eliminating sexual harassment, and aligning recruiting, career progression and workforce structure. “The maritime operating environment is increasingly complex and ever changing, and the Coast Guard’s value to the nation has never been greater,” Zukunft said in his first formal statement to the ranks. Zukunft succeeded outgoing Adm. Bob Papp during a May 30 ceremony at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
