Federal Manager's Daily Report

Federal inspectors general activities in fiscal 2005 nearly doubled the number of suspensions and debarments of business and persons for inappropriate activities with the government to 9,900, according to an annual report issued by two government audit organizations.

In their progress report for fiscal 2005, the President’s Council on Integrity and Efficiency and the Executive Council on Integrity and Efficiency said it there was a 19 percent increase in successful prosecutions — to 7,700 — as well as a 40 percent increase in personnel actions, to 2,800, since fiscal 2004.

The organizations also said the work of over 11,600 audit, investigation, inspection, and other professionals at 57 federal IG offices found $20 billion in potential savings from audit recommendations and investigative recoveries, an 11 percent increase over 2004.

IG actions in fiscal 2005 also led to 6,800 indictments and charges filed, 550 successful civil actions, and 216,000 processed hotline complaints, the report said.
