In a separate letter, Obama said that as President he would seek greater funding for the EPA. "I am committed to pursuing greater funding for the EPA so that its responsibilities are carried out." he wrote, adding, "Clean water, land and air, and ensuring the health and safety of our citizens, especially children, will be high priorities in an Obama Administration."
The letter said inadequate funding is behind poor allocation of resources and weakened enforcement and oversight of environmental laws and regulations.
It also pledged to discontinue what it called "attempts to thwart publication" of findings and would reverse the closure of the agency’s library system.
