The American Federation of Government Employees has announced that 22 of its Coast Guard bargaining units have voted to consolidate into one national bargaining unit consisting of both professional and non-professional employees.
It also said the Federal Labor Relations Authority has signed off on the arrangement covering about 2,500 employees.
John Gage, the union’s president, said the consolidation would give employees a stronger voice in job competitions, noting that the Coast Guard carries out the most A-76 studies in DHS.
He added that preliminary discussions have begun for a single labor agreement covering those employees, made up of about 250 professional positions and 2,250 non-professional positions, some wage grade and some GS employees.
