Delegates to the American Federation of Government Employees convention reelected John Gage as national president, defeating former president Bobby Harnage in a runoff vote. Gage, who first elected in 2003, has been a vocal critic of many Bush administration personnel policies, particularly regarding the design of new personnel systems at the Defense and Homeland Security departments.
The new National Secretary-Treasurer (NST) is J. David Cox, formerly the first vice president of the union’s national veterans affairs council. Andrea Brooks was reelected as national vice president for women’s and fair practices.
