The General Services Administration announced recently that it
has delivered its proposal for merging the Federal Acquisition
Service with the Federal Supply Service and the Federal
Technology Service to leaders of the House and Senate
appropriations committees.
“The new FAS will improve support of agencies’ internal management
processes so they can concentrate on their core missions,”
said acting FAS commissioner G. Martin Wagner. “We will focus
on helping agency management to be more effective by offering
timely and effective solutions at excellent prices that are
also easier to manage,” he said.
The reorganization of the new main customer
centers of the new FAS would include the following:
A customer accounts and research focus intended to help FAS
better understand requirements and become a strategic partner
in helping agencies meet their requirements.
An emphasis on acquisition management to ensure that services
activities are fully compliant with laws, regulations and
policies, and that operating practices are consistent across
business lines.
An integrated technology services portfolio combining existing
IT, some professional services and telecommunication business lines.
A general supplies and services portfolio designed to acquire a
broad range of commercial products, professional services, and
GSA specialized logistics-based activities.
A travel, motor vehicle and card services portfolio designed to
operate with supplier industries and share commonalities for
customers to provide opportunities for synergy and scale.
