GSA has announced plans to implement five cost savings ideas and estimates they will save it about $5.5 million.
As part of an on-going agency-wide review the agency carried out a "great ideas hunt" to solicit ideas about how it can improve performance and efficiency.
GSA received 632 ideas submitted online, and staff voted on which were the best – totaling about 20,000 votes.
Popular submissions include an idea to reduce newspaper and magazine subscriptions and choosing online versions when possible, which could save up to $630,000 annually; ending a redundant employee survey; and implementing a policy to set all printers to a default setting of double sided printing to save paper.
The agency said it is also reviewing and researching 40 other ideas submitted through the program, and expects to implement them on a rolling basis.
