The government is likely facing a larger number of retirements in the COR workforce than the overall federal workforce in the years to come, and nearly half of the CORs are currently eligible or will be in the next one to three years, according to MSPB.
It said that in the next seven years, two out of three CORs would be retirement-eligible, but that contracting work does not appear to extend their retirement plans — just 21 percent agreed that contract-related activities make them want to remain in the civil service after they are eligible to retire, while 42 percent disagreed.
MSPB said these numbers warrant strategic solutions to ensure there is enough, experienced technical expertise for the governments’ contracting needs in the years to come.
