In response to the government performance and results act,
managers have developed hundreds of measures that are
difficult and expensive to keep track of. That’s where
the balanced scorecard approach comes in, says the
National Academy of Public Administration, which has
scheduled an interest group “presentation-discussion”
for March 17 at its Washington D.C. headquarters.
Speaking at the event will be Chris Klocek from the
Department of Agriculture and Frances Benedict from
the Food and Drug Administration — they will be
talking about the different approaches they take in
their organizations to narrow and refine performance
measures.
The event is free for public sector employees. It is also
open to consultants working with agencies to install or
operate scorecards, but they should be willing and
prepared to describe their experiences related to
measuring performance in federal agencies and not use
the event as a marketing opportunity, emphasized NAPA.
