By: FEDweek StaffOPM has announced a new SES development program and a leadership training series for GS-14 and GS-15 personnel.
The Senior Executive Development Program (SEDP) is an on-demand video and podcast series offering training in constitutional governance, executive power, budgeting, policymaking, performance management, human capital strategy, workforce accountability, and more.
Modules are self-paced and must be completed within six months. OPM is encouraging all career Senior Executives to complete at least the “Returning to the Founding Principles” and “Implementing Administration Priorities” sections within the next year as part of their executive development plans.
The curriculum includes more than 40 topics, ranging from the Hatch Act, FOIA, and rulemaking to crisis leadership, acquisition, workforce planning, AI, and IT management. Agencies are expected to support enrollment through their existing training budgets.
OPM is also launching Leadership for an Efficient and Accountable Government (LEAG), an 80-hour intensive program for high-performing GS-14s and GS-15s preparing for greater responsibility. LEAG blends virtual and in-person instruction, coaching, assessments, and interactive modules focused on strategic thinking, program management, and executive communication.
The program emphasizes constitutional foundations, administration priorities, and new Executive Core Qualifications, offering a structured pathway for employees with senior-leadership potential. Participants will learn how to connect policy with implementation, drive efficiency, uphold accountability, and build a nationwide leadership network.
Agencies have been directed to announced the programs to staff in an email, with a template provided here, by Dec 19. Registration links and complete program details are available through OPM’s Executive Development Programs webpage.
