Federal Manager's Daily Report

In a letter to the chair of the Senate Small Business Committee, Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, the Office of Management Budget acknowledged that it hasn’t given small businesses enough access to federal contracts and said it would direct the Office of Federal Procurement Policy to take a number of actions to correct the imbalance, including steps to reduce the bundling together of functions.

In the letter, OMB deputy director for management Clay Johnson said he would ask the OFPP to change rules on categorizing the size of a business to guard against manipulation and misrepresentation.

Democrats on the House small business committee released a report recently that said nearly $12 billion in contracts had been miscoded as small business awards when in fact they went to large business in fiscal 2005.
