Federal Manager's Daily Report

PEER released its own survey of field CID field agents and cited a fear of job retaliation by management.

The government watchdog says it surveyed all 154 CID field agents nationwide and found that 58 percent feel the agency’s criminal program is weaker today than under President Bush, and that 65 percent feel it’s headed in the wrong direction.

Of the 48 agents that responded, another 79 percent said CID does not have adequate resources to perform its mission, with 67 percent saying they lack the tools they need to effectively carry out an investigation, and 77 percent saying the criminal program is poorly managed.

One respondent noted that there aren’t enough agents to investigate all environmental crimes, even apparently egregious ones, and expressed exasperation that agents are told to use travel judiciously but are then forced to travel to attend sensitivity training.
