Emergency preparedness and federal workforce development and support continued to be top priorities in 2021 for Federal Executive Boards, along with building partnerships across agencies, according to the boards’ annual report.
The 28 FEBs nationwide are centered in major cities and some smaller ones with large federal populations, and consist of executives of the differing agencies in an area. They sponsor cross-agency activities including the Combined Federal Campaign, food donation and blood donation drives, and, in 2021, coordination of Coronavirus vaccine.
During the year the boards hosted six emergency preparedness exercises on topics including cybersecurity and continuity of operations with more than 1,000 participants and 36 training workshops with more than 2,800, the report said. They also coordinated with state and local officials during natural disasters and other special events that in 2021 included hurricanes and other severe weather, power outages and protest activity, among others.
The boards also provided training opportunities to some 23,000 federal employees on topics from managing virtual teams to retirement preparedness, sponsored alternative dispute resolution programs that resulted in 159 settlements, and sponsored in employee award events and hiring fairs.
