By: FEDweek StaffPublic Service Recognition Week this year will be May 7-13, “a time set aside to honor the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county and local government employees,” says the Partnership for Public Service, a sponsor along with the Public Employees Roundtable.
“Throughout the nation and the world, public servants use this occasion to educate others about the work they do and why they have chosen public service careers, as well as the many ways government services make life better for all of us,” says a guide for agencies.
Suggested activities include using the week to recognize employees through awards programs and in other ways, honoring employees for volunteer activities and Combined Federal Campaign donations, and holding events with speakers including top agency and local officials.
The guide also includes suggestions for reaching out to schools, businesses and the media, along with sample proclamations, suggested points to make in letters to the editor or radio public service announcements, and other resources.
Also, performance.gov has posted resources for agencies and will host a webinar on using them April 13 at 2 pm Eastern time.
